Adam Capovilla Completed Second Ironman

On 22 March 2015 NSW BDM Adam Capovilla completed his second Ironman event in Melbourne, Australia. The team at WebFM are very proud to support Adam and his family to compete in this world class event.

The history of the event began in the 1970’s. During an awards banquet for the Waikiki Swim Club, John Collins, a Naval Officer stationed in Hawaii, and his wife Judy, began playing with the idea of combining the three toughest endurance races on the island into one race. They decided to issue a challenge to see who the toughest athletes were: swimmers, bikers, or runners. On February 18, 1978, 15 competitors, including Collins, came to the shores of Waikiki to take on the first-ever IRONMAN challenge.

The Ironman is today one of the world’s great athletic events. It combines a 3.8km ocean swim, 180 km Bike ride and 42.2km run. It is truly a global event with thousands of participants and supporters covering multiple races in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and elsewhere.

For Adam his race started well with the swim, the one section Adam admits is his worst. His 3.8km swim time 1:13:18.

Next is the bike ride, Adam’s best part of the event. However near the end at the 180km point Adam came off his bike and lost valuable time. Even with this set back Adam completed the bike ride in 5:22:01 and moved from Division rank 202 in the swim up to rank 149.

Now carrying an injured hip and minor grazes from the bike crash the 42.2 km run was going to be hard. Adam admits “this was the toughest part, as I was hurting and wanted to give up”. But despite his injuries Adam finished the run in 4:46:22 and a Division rank of 164.

Race Summary
Swim: 1:13:18
Bike 5:22:01
Run 4:46:22
Overall 11:32:18
Div Rank: 164 Overall 748
2014 Results Div Rank 164, Overall 781.
Our congratulations to Adam, for completing his second Ironman. The question is – what’s next?
